Name Change

Frequently Asked Questions - Name Change to Hope Story

Why is a name change necessary?

Over the past two years, our leadership has embarked on a visioning process to determine how we can best serve orphans and vulnerable children around the world. After months of prayer and discernment, we believe our greatest impact is as a capacity builder, working through and empowering the local church to frontline action. This represents a fundamental change in our modus operandi. Our new emphasis on church partnerships outside of the Kids Alive network has led us to the point of changing our name to more accurately reflect our vision.

Are you changing your focus?

No. Our mission was and continues to be centred on serving orphans and vulnerable children. We continue to be guided by our Christian faith, seeking to serve God in all that we do, and sharing the gospel in word and deed. Our mission is rooted in the biblical mandate of James 1:27, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

Is this the result of a broken relationship with Kids Alive USA?

No. Our relationship with the Kids Alive network - Kids Alive (USA) and Hope for Kids (UK) - is stronger than ever. In 2017, we have budgeted an overall increase of support for Kids Alive-affiliated sites around the world. We intend to maintain a close partnership with Kids Alive while at the same time growing the quantity and quality of our church partnerships around the world.

Why Hope Story?

Every child has a story. We strive to bring hope to vulnerable children and the communities that surround them. We want to see children enjoy life in all its fullness – a life made possible through Christ’s love and redemptive work in this world. It’s a Good News story we hope to share in Canada and around the world. It’s a story that is lived among our staff, our partners and the children we serve. “Hope Story” defines who we are and what we want to become.

What was the process for choosing a new name?

Once we decided that a change was necessary, we assembled a task force. We looked at our existing brand. We looked at our emerging vision and mission. We held interviews with donors, field staff, missionaries, and churches. We built upon our understanding of what God is calling us to be. The task force established a list of prospective names and Hope Story emerged loud and clear as the best choice. The Board of Directors carefully deliberated and unanimously endorsed Hope Story as our new name.

When will I see the change?

On Monday April 3, 2017 you will see the new name and logo displayed on all communications, including our website, address, child sponsorship materials, etc.

I am committed to a particular project affiliated with Kids Alive. Should I be concerned?

No need for concern. While our roster of projects does change from time to time, the name change should not affect your ability to support a particular project.

How will the change affect office staff & missionaries?

We are in growth mode. In the months to come, we are working to improve your giving experience through Hope Story. And since our relationship with Kids Alive USA remains strong, we are committed to enabling the ongoing support of Kids Alive-affiliated missionaries.

I would like to serve in a Kids Alive-affiliated ministry. Is that still possible?

Yes. We anticipate a high degree of overlap between the ministries of Kids Alive and Hope Story, and we are committed to facilitating new service opportunities with Kids Alive field partners.

Can I still make cheques out to “Kids Alive Canada”?

We ask you to make cheques payable to Hope Story effective April 3, 2017.

We cannot accept cheques made out to Kids Alive Canada after April 3, 2017.

NOTE: In our mail out announcing our name change we had it listed that we would be able to accept cheques. Unfortunately we were misinformed and we cannot accept cheques made out to Kids Alive Canada after April 3, 2017.

Does the change jeopardize my preauthorized bank withdrawals or credit card giving?

Your recurring donations will continue to be processed; no changes are necessary. Note that after April 3rd, recurring donors will see “Hope Story” on their credit card statement.

How does this affect my child sponsorship?

Apart from superficial branding, the name change will not affect your child sponsorship or communication with your sponsor child.

How will this affect my tax receipt?

Starting in 2017, official tax receipts will be issued by Hope Story under the same charitable number: #872164561RR0001.
