Rajan's Story - Nepal

Rajan's Story - Nepal

Pastor Rajan leads SARA Children’s Home in Nepal, a safe haven for children that would otherwise be left alone on the streets. Rajan writes:

“I grew up in a mountainous, rocky, and remote area of Nepal near Mt. Everest. I was born and brought up in a Hindu family in the midst of severe poverty. My parents migrated to an area of the plains near the Northern border of India thinking and hoping that life would improve. Instead, my mother died after two years. I was so sad as a five-year-old boy - without my mother - without love, hope, or joy.” In desperate conditions, Rajan's father landed at an orphanage run by an Indian missionary. He worked at the school, and in return, his sons received food, shelter, and an education. Yet Rajan was very sad. He was so broken in spirit that he simply could not focus in school. “I was longing for the love of my mom,” he remembers. “Every night I would see her in my dreams.”

Rajan explains what happened next: One day my brother got sick and I had no way to help him. As his elder brother, I felt so helpless sitting beside my brother’s bedside. I regretted my life. A Christian came along and told me about Jesus and asked my permission to pray over my brother. He prayed and went away. After a while, my brother was healed! That gave me hope in Jesus. One day I was invited to a children’s fellowship. He shared, "through God’s Word, I learned about the true love of God which never ends. A few weeks later I believed in and received Jesus as my Savior and the Lord of my Life. I found myself new inside! I could feel joy and hope within me. I was so excited and encouraged that I began to study hard in school, and even won the 'First Position' in my entire class."

“I was the first kid to memorize John 3:16,” says Rajan. “I realised there is someone who loves me so much."

Many years later, in 1997, Rajan and his wife started a church.

Today, Hope Story supporters sponsor 30 vulnerable children, otherwise expected to live a life alone on the streets, under the care of Pastor Rajan's church and children’s home. Pastor Rajan knows what it’s like to lose a parent, what it’s like to be really hungry, and remembers his deep sadness. He has an incredible heart for lost and destitute children, offering them more than food and education, but also a loving home, and the gospel message that Jesus will make all things new.
