Joanna's Hope Story

Joanna (not real name) lived a life of sexual abuse for as long as she can remember.

While she had the opportunity to go to school for several years, at 12 years old she stopped attending to work as a domestic and take care of her younger brother - all while being abused by her father. At 14, Joanna arrived at the Oasis 5 months pregnant and searching for help.  In the beginning she claimed the father of her baby was a boyfriend.  At the Oasis, however, she had the opportunity to learn about Jesus.  She began to feel safe and eventually shared the truth about the father of her child.

The Oasis took out criminal complaints against Joanna’s father and coordinated his arrest at a custody hearing.  Thanks to the efforts of those working at the home, he is now serving a 22 year sentence and Joanna has been granted justice.

Joanna gave birth to a baby girl and has become a loving mother.  Her baby, thought healthy, is developmentally challenged as she has had a very difficult time gaining and weight.  Both Joanna and the baby continue to be in the care and custody of the Oasis where the baby is provided with supplemental nutrition and is monitored closely.

Despite all that she has been through, Joanna relies on the Lord for strength and has become a strong and capable young woman.  She’s been baptized, is a frequent singer on the Oasis worship team, and has returned to school by studying on the weekends.  Joanna’s future looks bright.
