A Legacy of Service

A Legacy of Service

Recently, Hope Story was humbled to learn of a legacy gift from Elizabeth Marjorie Dance. From the age of three, Marjorie grew up in Galt, Ontario, in a family of five until one fateful day in her teenage years she felt the call of God to dedicate her life to the needy through missionary service.

Marjorie then dedicated herself to an education that would support her call. Upon graduating from Bible School and the Missionary Health Institute, Marjorie began serving at the then Egbe Hospital in Nigeria through SIM (Serving in Mission). Marjorie served the people of Nigeria through the hospital for 31 years - until the hospital was nationalized. Upon her return to Canada, she served in the Mission office until retirement in 1992.

On November 16, 2018, Marjorie passed away. Her life was a great witness to us all. While her humble choices in life were guided by her heart, and she never sought accolades, we must afford her one today. Marjorie’s substantial legacy gift to the children of the world through Hope Story is a powerful testimony to her values. Her impact on so many individuals across the world, and selfless, unannounced giving to the very end of her life, might cause us all to pause.

"What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked or destitute of daily food, and one of you says, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus, also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." James 2:14-17
