Write your child

Connect with your sponsored child

Writing is a great way to foster a wonderful relationship with your sponsor child. Your interest in the child and encouragement of them can mean more than you know! When you write, please include the full name of your sponsor child and their ID number in your mailing envelope, so we can ensure it reaches the intended child.

Email your sponsor child

Email messages are received quickly by Partner staff who will then deliver them personally to your sponsored child, as many children do not have a postal address.
If you wish to attach a photo, send one to admin@hopestory.ca
Thank you! Your submission has been received!

Frequently asked questions

What should I include in my letter?

Children love receiving Birthday/Christmas cards, postcards, letters, photos of your family and/or pets, stickers and/or bookmarks. Children love to learn more about their sponsors and share about themselves. However, please be sensitive to the child’s economic situation and avoid discussing material possessions. Please note that only flat paper based products will make it down to your sponsor child. Physical mail must fit inside a flat envelope no larger than 6” x 9”

Can I send an email directly to my sponsor child?

As part of our child protection policy, we ask that all correspondence be sent via our office to be screened for appropriate content. In efforts to protect both children and sponsors, children are also prohibited from connecting directly with sponsors through social networking sites, by direct email or phone. However, we encourage you to send an email message to your child through our website below.

How much does sponsorship cost?

Child sponsorship starts at a minimum of $49 per month. If you can sponsor at a higher amount, please contact the office at 1-866-839-5437 to make arrangements.

How long will my sponsorship last?

We hope that you can experience a long-term relationship with your sponsored child. The length of your sponsorship is dependent on many factors, such as when the child graduates, an unexpected departure of the child from the program due to family circumstances, or unforeseen circumstances that hinder sponsorship giving.

How are children selected for sponsorship?

The eligibility of each child is determined by an assessment of the child’s family income, living conditions and overall situation .

Do my sponsorship contributions go directly to one child?

The funds you contribute do directly impact the child you sponsor. For administrative efficiency and fairness, however, Hope Story's sponsorship program pools the sponsorship funds we receive for the children in a particular community, and from this fund we pay for the essential needs of the children like food and school fees. This allows us to ensure that all children in the sponsorship program are well provided for, and allows us to accommodate a child's special and urgent needs as arise from time to time.

What is the difference between being a Child Sponsor and a Champion of Hope?

Child sponsors are connected directly with an individual child, and their support is guaranteed to go towards the outreach that impacts the child they support. Child sponsors are uniquely invited to encourage their child through communications, and will receive updates specifically from their sponsored child. Champions of Hope are monthly contributors to an individual church’s outreach to the children and families of the entire community. The support of Champions of Hope may also help the child you are sponsoring, however, Champions of Hope contributions can also go towards the development and growth of a program, such as, towards the training of teachers. While Child Sponsorship is a commitment to a child, Champions of Hope are committed to the broader outreach of the church. In either case, 85 cents of every dollar donated is directed towards the needs in the field.

How is child sponsorship different through Hope Story?

As a Christ-centered ministry, we seek to foster the physical, mental and spiritual growth of a child. It is our hope that children can be healed, restored, and transformed through the love of Christ embodied in the outreach and care of the Church congregation. Most of the children we serve have experienced pain and suffering beyond physical deprivations. We strive to help children thrive at home, at school and in their community by encouraging them to learn and grow as unique individuals with a unique potential as a child of God. Hope Story uniquely partners with an existing church that is already reaching out to children, empowering local leaders to bring change in their own communities.

When do I receive when I become a sponsor?

You will receive a welcome package in the mail containing a photograph of your sponsored child, a photo magnet frame and information containing your child’s name, age, family circumstances, and other information that may be of interest.

How often will I hear from my sponsor child?

Each year you will receive an updated photo of your sponsored child and a progress report. Your sponsored child may also write to you depending on his or her age. Children also complete special holiday activities that are sent to child sponsors around Christmas and Easter.

Where should I send the physical letter?

Please send your letter to:
Hope Story
3-55 Fleming DriveCambridge,
ON N1T 2A9

We will mail your letter to our partner staff who will ensure your sponsored child receives it.

Does sponsorship really help the child?

Yes, more than you may be able to imagine. The child you support has substantial needs. In the real world, not every community is alike, and different aspects of need (abuse, hunger, gang-violence, illiteracy) are prioritized based on the needs of the children in a specific community environment. In every case, sponsorship supports a child’s education and allows caring adults to mentor them through their struggles. You make this transformation possible!

How can I be sure that my money will be spent responsibly?

Hope Story is a certified member of the Canadian Christian Council of Charities (CCCC), and as such, we undergo a rigorous certification process on an annual basis. Our CCCC Seal of Accountability means you can give confidently and generously toward the children in need. Every dollar we invest in children is outlined in a planned partner budget and accounted for through receipts from our field partners.

Can I send gifts to my sponsored child?

While we do not send physical gifts, you are encouraged to contribute financially to the child’s birthday or Christmas celebration. The purchase of appropriate gifts and of supplies for the celebration is coordinated through the program's Sponsorship Coordinator. Please feel free to donate online here or call our office at 1-866-839-5437. You may also email sponsorship@hopestory.ca to authorize a one-time pre-authorized debit transaction with your existing banking information.

Will I be the only one sponsoring my child?

Yes, we only assign one child sponsor to each child*. However, due to our holistic approach to child and family care, differing living and inflation costs per country, and other variables, certain children may also have an education sponsor or may receive support through community builder contributions to help meet their needs that go beyond what monthly sponsorship can provide for. For more information please contact sponsorship@hopestory.ca

* Kenya is the one exception, where 2 sponsors are assigned to sponsor 1 child.

Hope Story shares my love of children...the best “inventions” ever! Through Hope Story I have “met” such beautiful kids and feel like I am truly making a difference in their lives. Through emails, phone calls and online interviews, I feel like I am an integral - even though small - part of the work they do. Congratulations on 25 years of sharing hope!
