Empowering children, youth, and families in Livingstone through holistic care, education, and discipleship.

Founded in 1979, by Canadian missionaries Rev. Peter and Muriel Mitchel, Calvary Church has grown from a small mission into a dynamic centre of community transformation in Livingstone, Zambia. Over the decades, the church has planted churches and developed programs addressing both spiritual and practical needs of the community. Today, the church's Community Centre supports children, youth, and families, with programs that integrate education, vocational skills, health support, and discipleship.
Through the Calvary Community Centre, students receive homework support, digital literacy training, and music lessons, while daily devotionals and Bible teaching nurture spiritual growth. Home visits complement centre-based programs, engaging children, families, and neighbors in Bible study, prayer, and mentoring.
Adult participants benefit from skills-based programs such as literacy and catering, which include internships and practical experience to improve employability. Vocational and educational initiatives are designed to empower both youth and adults, providing pathways to sustainable livelihoods while fostering a culture of learning and personal growth.
Health and well-being are central to Calvary’s ministry. Daily meals, wellness education, basic health checks, counseling, and food relief ensure that children and families have access to essential support. Hope Story comes alongside Calvary by strengthening these programs that support education, health, and discipleship within the community.
